TsAGI participates in the 4th International Retreat on Vortical Flow and Aerodynamics

TsAGI specialists participated in the IV International Retreat on Vortical Flow and Aerodynamics — IRVA. The event was held at the Kutateladze Institute of Thermophysics, Siberian Branch of the RAS (Novosibirsk).
The head of TsAGI’s Department of aeroacoustics and ecology aircraft professor Victor Kopjev delivered a report, focusing on the noise generation of large-scale vortex structures caused by cylinder firing. In his message, he raised the issue of the dimensional scaling of aeroacoustic effects when passing from small scale to full-scale. According to him, such works are interesting because the vortex ring is a kind of “hydrogen atom” of aeroacoustics. It can be a good example in the study of complex issues of sound generation by turbulent currents.
The last Conference was focused on the discussion of scientific and technological achievements in vortex hydro, aerodynamics and turbulence. The work was carried out in the following areas: vortex flow control and decrease resistance; vortex structure, instability and destruction; vortex flows modeling; experimental methods to study turbulent flows.
Russia was an active participant in previous international conferences on vortex flow and aerodynamics, held in China, and got an opportunity to hold IRVA-4 in one of the leading research centers of the heat exchange theory and physical hydro-gas-dynamics — the Kutateladze Institute of Thermophysics, Siberian Branch of the RAS. The next Conference will be held at the Technical University of Denmark.
