TsAGI Aeromodeller Wins Russian Free-Flight Aeromodelling Cup Stage

Despite new economic and technological challenges imposed by Western sanction policy, Russia keeps on developing comprehensively. In particular, special attention is paid to the national system of sport training and competitions. TsAGI (a part of NRC “Zhukovsky Institute”) is providing overwhelming support to all its employees who are keen on aeromodelling sport.
Another TsAGI team’s success was the victory of Albert Bulatov (First-Category Engineer, R&T Center, TsAGI) at Russian Free-Flight Aeromodelling Cup Stage, which took place from July 7 to 10 in Kazan, near Bolshyie Kabany Settlement.
The Cup was organized by KAI (Kazan National Research Technical University named after A. N. Tupolev). It gathered 63 aeromodellers representing different Russian cities, from St. Petersburg to Irkutsk.
F1B competitions included seven tours; 10 finalists were selected according to the results. Weather conditions were rather challenging at the final: the sun was bright, the day was windy, and the air changed from ascending to descending. Despite this, Albert Bulatov won with 5 min 50 seconds, outscoring his competitor from Saratov by one second. It was possible to stay in the air for so long because the takeoff altitude of 114 meters and the lift-to-drag ratio of the model were rather high.
‘The victory improved my rating in the Russian Cup, and increased my chances of overall lead,’ Bulatov said.
Currently, Albert Bulatov is Russia’s F1B top-ranker. He will show his skills and knowledge during the next competitions—the Russian Cup Stages in Nalchik, Kabardino-Balkaria—where he will go late October with TsAGI Aeromodellers Team.
