Russian delegates participate in RUMBLE International Project seminar
27 June 2019
The representatives of the Russian side of the RUMBLE project consortium headed by the Chief Scientific Officer of the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute named after Professor N.E. Zhukovsky (part of the National Research Center “Zhukovsky Institute”, NRC), Academician of RAS, Sergei Chernyshev, held the third open seminar devoted to the intermediate results of work on the research of sonic boom produced by a supersonic civil aircraft. The event took place within the framework of the
The first part of the event was devoted to the negotiations with the representatives of the French Dassault Aviation aircraft-building company, a RUMBLE project participant, on further bilateral cooperation steps in 2019. In particular, Russian scientists would assess aerodynamic and weight properties, calculate basic flight-technical parameters and sonic boom level of supersonic business jet demonstrator at the layout provided by the foreign partners. “Our experts will be able to compare methods, approaches, and results of aerodynamic calculation with our European partners’ investigations. We will sum up the results of the work soon in December, at the fourth RUMBLE seminar,” said the head of TsAGI’s SPA / SBJ programme (Supersonic Passenger Aircraft / Supersonic Business Jet) and RUMBLE technical manager Dr. Igor Bashkirov.
Later on, there was a plenary meeting participated by the EC and the presentation of a low sonic boom demonstrator built in Pierre and Marie Curie University (the Sorbonne University). With the use of a special acoustic installation, which was equipped with processor-controlled loudspeakers, sonic boom was simulated within the limits of
At the conclusion of the event, the parties discussed this year’s forthcoming flight experiment jointly organized by TsAGI and Gromov Flight Research Institute. A distinctive feature of Summer 2019 Flight Campaign was the measurements of vibration level in living space due to supersonic sound waves and its correspondence to the sonic boom level.
Paris Air Show is one of the world’s largest and most prestigious aerospace exhibitions. This is a biennial event featuring various aerial and space vehicles, satellites, aircraft and spacecraft engines, airport equipment, etc. This year it took place June 17 — 21.
RUMBLE (RegUlation and norМ for low sonic Boom LEvels) is a project of the EU “Horizon 2020” Framework Programme. In course of the research, the experts define the standards of the acceptable noise and vibration level for population and land, overflown by supersonic airplanes. The final document is planned to be submitted for consideration to ICAO. The work on the project started in November 2017 and will continue until 2020.
