TsAGI Doors Open Day in a new format

Every April the Zhukovsky Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI, a member of the National Research Center “Zhukovsky Institute”) holds Doors Open Day for pupils and students. Its main purpose is to acquaint younger generations with the characteristics of work in the aerospace industry and to interest young people in the further employment in the leading center of aeronautical science. The event lasted for two days this year. The new format was driven by an unprecedented number of those wishing to visit the Institute-about 800 people.
Students and school pupils gathered at TsAGI’s House of Scientists. The children had the opportunity to learn more about the main activities of the Institute and ask questions to TsAGI’s representatives, the Council of young scientists and specialists, as well as supporting universities.
Alexander Medvedsky, TsAGI First Deputy Director General spoke before guests and told about the history of the Centre of aeronautical science and its current activities. “You are faced now with one of the key decisions of your life — the choice of your future speciality,” he said. “Choosing the profession of a researcher, scientist, and engineer and getting hired at TsAGI, you’ll assure yourself of a guaranteed and interesting career.”
Yury Prokhorov , the city of Zhukovsky head of facility administration noted in his speech the importance and significance of TsAGI not only as a center of aircraft manufacturing, but also as the leading enterprise of the city, where work many citizens and people from nearby settlements.
Representatives of relevant for TsAGI universities addressed to students: FALT MIPT, MAI branch “Strela”, as well as Bauman Moscow State Technical University and Moscow Power Engineering Institute. A new development in the Doors Open Day became the involvement of young people studying on targeted programmes. They have already made their choice in favor of the leading centre of aeronautical science. The students talked about the advantages of targeted training, the nuances of employment and TsAGI’s social support.
In Saturday, April 20 the students visited the Museum, visited key installation of experimental base of the Institute. Amongst other things they observed the largest in Europe subsonic wind tunnel T-101, the strength laboratories, where the objects of civil and military aviation are studied. Some of the guests managed to feel like pilots, when they tried flight simulators. TsAGI’s guests were able to get acquainted with the activities of the Institute, get bright impressions and experience the atmosphere of science.
