AIRSHOW CHINA 2018: TsAGI key takeaways

21 November 2018

In early November, the delegation of the The Zhukovsky Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI, a member of the National Research Center “Zhukovsky Institute”) took part in AIRSHOW CHINA 2018 — the 12th International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition and International Airport equipment Exhibition in Zhuhai (China). The key areas of TsAGI’s business program were the development of cooperation with foreign partners, realization of joint projects, and the Russian-Chinese scientific conferences.

The Institute representatives held 11 meetings with partners. Negotiations with the Chinese Aeronautical Academy CAE touched on current and future works, including joint participation in the BRICS’s competitions. Parties identified plans for multilateral cooperation in the framework of the IFAR (International Forum Aviation Research). The partners also discussed preparations for the 16th Sino-Russian Aviation Science and Technology Conference. It will be held jointly by CAE and TsAGI in China in 2019.

TsAGI and the Chinese Aerodynamic Research Center CARDC signed an agreement for the project “Study of the noise sources of blunt-body large and small models to develop the methods of landing gear noise reduction.” It is expected that the project implementation will take place in the framework of the federal target program “Research and development in priority directions of scientific-technological complex of Russia in 2014-2020.” Another item of the meeting was the preparation of the II Symposium on fundamental and applied aerodynamics, dedicated to TsAGI’s centenary. It will be held in late November in TsAGI.

In addition, TsAGI signed a Cooperative Agreement on scientific and technological cooperation with the China Academy of aerospace aerodynamics. It confirmed the intention to cooperate in the research of machines for landing on Mars.

TsAGI and the COMAC BASTRI Company identified subjects for future cooperation in the field of aerodynamics and aeroelasticity of advanced civil aircraft.

AIRSHOW CHINA 2018 is the China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition and International Airport equipment Exhibition 2018 and the only international aerospace exhibition endorsed and actively supported by the Government of China. It has been held since 1996 in even-numbered years. Visitors will see civil and military aircraft, airfield engineering, space technology, ground equipment, missile and aircraft engines, missiles and aircraft armament, navigation and flight control systems, airport equipment, training systems, air defence systems, etc. The program includes strategic expositions of aerospace products, demonstration flights, platforms and seminars.
