TsAGI hosts IFAR Young Researchers Conference

The Zhukovsky Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI, a member of the National Research Center “Zhukovsky Institute”) hosted the Young Researchers Conference of International Forum for Aviation Research (YRC IFAR 2018), dedicated to the Institute’s centenary. The event was support by Rossotrudnichestvo and took place from October 30 to November 2, 2018.

The Conference was attended by about 80 representatives of leading aviation research centers in Russia, Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Romania, China, Japan, India, the Republic of Korea, Canada and South Africa.

The IFAR YRC 2018 key topics were advanced technology for eco-friendly air transport of the future, improving transport safety and mobility, and management of scientific projects. Young scientists discussed the opportunities and challenges of Aeronautics of the future, presented projects results, ideas, and initiatives.

“I sincerely hope that you will make the most of the Conference and have a fruitful time,” said Kirill Sypalo, TsAGI Director General, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences said in his welcoming speech. “I would like to see you in future occasions at our conferences as young scientists, and as participants of collaborative research.”

Special attention was devoted to team interaction, intercultural communication, expansion of business contacts and presentation of participants’ competencies as potential research partners. The IFAR X Design Challenge Training Seminar contributed to these goals. Its purpose was the research review and the insight into best international practices of project management in aerospace developments in free format. TsAGI leading scientists and experts participated in round table discussions. They shared their experience of research projects at different stages and answered questions from young people.

An interesting TsAGI presentation was the lecture of TsAGI’s Chief Scientific Officer and Academician of Russian Academy of Science Sergey Chernyshev. It was dedicated to the promising research areas and the aircraft concepts of the future.

The IFAR Young Researchers Conference’s moderators were the Honorary Chairman of IFAR, Professor Joachim Zodruh; PhD psychologist Maria Zodruh; Managing Director of ALR Aerospace, former Vice President of the Airbus Advanced Design and Technology Department Dr. Georges Bridel; as well as young professionals from TsAGI and DLR.

The International Forum for Aviation Research (IFAR) was set up in 2008 by an initiative of 12 leaders of the world’s leading national aviation research centers. Currently, IFAR includes 26 organizations representing a total of about 35,000 scientists. Russia is represented by TsAGI in IFAR.
