TsAGI wins the Russian Cup in aeromodelling 2018

12 October 2018

The team of the Zhukovsky Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI) participated in the seventh and eighth stages of the Russian Cup in aeromodelling in Suzdal. The TsAGI Centenary Cup was the object of the competition.

Yury Yevdokimov ,Head of the Department of TsAGI Research and Development Center was the winner of the seventh stage in free flight glider modelling. At the next competition phase he shared the seventh and eighth places with the Chief of TsAGI’s Department of aerodynamics and aircraft missiles Alexander Kornushenko. On summary of the two competition phases Yuri Yevdokimov won the first place and the TsAGI Centenary Cup. In addition, he was recognized as the Russian Cup winner of the 2018 sports season.

“The seventh stage of the Russian Cup was at the same time the stage of the World Cup on aircraft modeling, attended by strong rivals from Israel, Finland and from all corners of our country,” said Yury Evdokimov. “I was able to become the best among the 36 athletes. My result in final flight was 6 minutes 35 seconds; the model flew at 800 meters. The weather let the eighth stage let us down: it was raining and I made an error at the very beginning of the competition. But I did not give up and showed good results in the remaining rounds. It allowed me to take first place on the sum of these competitions.”

His colleague, a young specialist Albert Bulatov, won bronze at the seventh and eighth stages of the competitions and ranked second in the TsAGI Centenary Cup in the class of rubber motor free-flight models. He was also the winner of the Russian Cup 2018 on aircraft modeling.

Yury Evdokimov and Albert Bulatov are planning to become members of the Russian national team in 2019 and to represent our country at the World Championships for free flight models in California.

TsAGI was the organizer of the seventh and eighth stages of the Russian Cup of for sport aircraft modeling in Suzdal. An additional TsAGI Centenary Cup was organized following the results of the two phases of the competition. The winners received memorable prizes with the Institute Centenary’s symbols. Sporting free flight model aircraft is one of the most technically challenging championship classes, recognized by the FAI. The models have hard restrictions on mass-dimensional parameters, rubber and motor, internal-combustion engine volume. It makes the participants search for the ideal aerodynamics and strength in the face of those limits.
