TsAGI holds the II Aerospace Innovation Projects Competition
15 December 2017
The II Aerospace Innovation Projects Competition took place in the framework of the 5th Annual national exhibition “VUZPROMEXPO-2017.” The finalists’ projects were devoted to drones, power plants for electric aircraft, high-speed cable assembly by non-contact semi-automatic soldering of couples, and measuring stands to determine the electromagnetic characteristics of materials.
Finalists included a project by TsAGI engineers, “Hybrid composite material of high absorbing characteristics and its manufacture technology for aerospace structures” (Project Manager-G.A. Vodovozov, the author A.N. Shanygin).
The competition, organized by the Zhukovsky Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI, a member of the National Research Center “Zhukovsky Institute”), demonstrated the evolution of new developments from research ideas and early innovation stages to a production and process level with target introduction into the production process.
Twenty-nine entities applied for participation: Forty per cent of the projects were from universities, others were from aerospace industrial companies and representatives of the scientific- research sector.
The Skolkovo Foundation participated in the work of the Organizing Committee and the Expert Board. Their main task was to provide financial support to the most interesting projects and developments. The ROSNANO Fund for Infrastructure and Educational Programs was another partner of the Competition, contributing the prize money. The Organizing Committee included representatives of the Foundation “Bank for Development and Foreign Economic Affairs Innovation,” the United Aircraft Corporation, the holding company “Russian Helicopters,” State Space Corporation Roskosmos, and the National Research Center “Zhukovsky Institute.” The Organizing Committee was headed by Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation Grigory Trubnikov.
Earlier at a press conference, which was dedicated to the exhibition “VUZPROMEXPO-2017,” TsAGI Director General and Academician Sergey Chernyshev noted that the Aerospace Innovation Projects Competition attracted considerable participant interest even in the first year of its existence. “We consider this competition as a platform where projects’ authors meet funding organizations and industrial companies,” he said. “The event brings out outstanding proposals, promoting them to global innovative projects.”
