TsAGI scientists deliver report at the 6th CEAS Air & Space Conference

2 November 2017

In October 2017 the Zhukovsky Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI, a member of the National Research Center "Zhukovsky Institute") participated in the 6th Conference of the Council of European Aerospace Society (6th CEAS Air & Space Conference). The event took place in Bucharest (Romania).

Institute scientists presented research results in the fields of aircraft design, aeroelasticity, structural dynamics, etc.

TsAGI experts talked about their study of a low-noise aircraft for regional and short-haul flights. The aircraft configuration allows use of a slightly swept wing to ensure laminar flow. Scientists of the Russian Center of Aeronautical Science presented to their foreign colleagues an analysis of air viscous effects for transonic flatter and calculational models of aeroelasticity of aircraft, good for wind tunnel tests as well. Experts of the Institute paid special attention to icing issues. They focused on the problem of interaction of supercooled droplets and non-spherical crystals on a solid object in a mixed cloud. In addition, specialists demonstrated their progress in the framework of international AGILE project and AFLoNext 7th Framework program of the European Union.

The Conference became a fruitful platform for cooperation. “We have held a series of meetings with European partners from DLR, ONERA INTENDED, VKI and others,” said Evgeny Andreev, TsAGI Head for cooperation with European countries. "We had a meeting with the AGILE project coordinator, who praised TsAGI’s participation in the Consortium and expressed interest in continuing research in the next competition of the “Horizon 2020” program.

TsAGI participated in the Conference as Russia’s National Contact Point (NCP)-Aeronautics, which exists to enhance scientific cooperation between Russia and EU in the field of aeronautics. Institute delegation members discussed with their colleagues from the European Commission the issues of holding joint competitive tenders within the framework of the program “Horizon 2020.” Another item of the business program was the participation in the CEAS Management Committee meeting. They discussed the meeting place and the organizer of the next Management Committee meeting.

The CEAS Conference aims to promote achievements in aeronautics, space science and technologies. The event helps to bring together researchers, science academic representatives, Government and other related participants in sharing the latest ideas and innovations in Europe’s aerospace industry.
