TsAGI and Educational Center «Sirius» strengthen cooperation

26 October 2017

Representatives of the Zhukovsky Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI, a member of the National Research Center "Zhukovsky Institute") held a meeting with Elena Shmelyova, Head of the Talent and Success Foundation, a member of the Presidential Council on Science and education. The meeting took place in mid-October in Sochi.

The members of the meeting discussed cooperation between TsAGI and the educational center for gifted children “Sirius.” They discussed a key issue, TsAGI’s participation in establishing a laboratory of aviation technology at the center in Sochi. It is expected that under the scientific supervision of aerospace professionals, including employees of TsAGI, students will have an opportunity to carry out experiments, to gain basic knowledge in the field of aerodynamics, flight dynamics, strength, and to study structure and principles of the operation of aircraft.

“Setting up such a laboratory will help to break new ground with these talented youth, get them interested in aviation and, potentially, to nurture new specialists in the aerospace industry,” said TsAGI Director General and Academician Sergey Chernyshev.

The interaction between the Institute and “Sirius” started last summer with a presentation by Sergey Chernyshev in the Education Center. Later, at his invitation, graduates of the Educational Center “Sirius” — prize-winners of the Russian Federation Presidential award — participated in scientific events of the institute and visited the XIII International Aviation and Space Salon MAKS-2017.

The “Sirius” Educational Center in Sochi was created by the “Talent and Success” educational foundation on the basis of the Olympic infrastructure and on the initiative of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin. The Center’s aim is early detection, professional development and further support of gifted children with extraordinary abilities in the arts, sports, science, as well as in technical creativity. Students from 10- to 17-years of age who show promise may complete their training at “Sirius” for free.
