Strengthening of international and scientific cooperation: Outcome of the 16th TsAGI-ONERA Seminar
18 October 2017
The 16th TsAGI-ONERA seminar took place in Neauphle-le-Château (France) on October
Scientists of the two countries presented about 30 reports. The major themes were critical phenomena in aerodynamics, including icing and de-icing; composite airframes; alternative aircraft layouts; and the dynamics and flight control.
During the seminar, representatives of the French and Russian Aviation centers of science discussed and signed terms of reference for two joint projects in the field of aeroacoustics. The first one was aimed at the development and optimization of diagnostic methods for fan noise, the second project was devoted to analytical and numerical research noise in jet-wing interaction.
The discussion at the venue of the events made possible an outline of the potential subjects for future collaborative research, e.g., physics of aircraft icing, dynamics of trailing vortex and modeling of composite aircraft structures.
The Denis Maugars Award took place within the framework of the seminar. The prize is awarded every two years for joint projects of young scientists from ONERA and TsAGI, on a competitive basis. Following the results of the 16th seminar the prize was awarded to the SCENAARIO project, which aimed to assess interaction between the propeller and the fuselage, and the development of aircraft flight data.
“The interaction between TsAGI and ONERA has lasted for more than half a century,” stressed the Chief Scientific Officer of the seminar, TsAGI Deputy Director General, Head of the Aircraft Flight Aerodynamics and Dynamics Complex Sergey Lyapunov. “All these years, our experts have been engaged in a dialogue, exchanging ideas and experiences to meet the most pressing industry issues. The leaders of both research centers who participated in the organization of the seminar noted the high quality of submitted work and the importance of strengthening our mutual scientific cooperation.”
An annual scientific-technical seminar TsAGI-ONERA, established in 2002 on the bilateral initiative of Heads of research centers, in 2016 was included in the list of events to commemorate the 50th anniversary of cooperation between Russia and France in research, science and technology. The Denis Maugars research project competition was first held in 2015. Denis Maugars was President and CEO of the French aerospace lab ONERA from 2003 to 2013.
