Late in September, Sergey Chernyshev, Director General of the Zhukovsky Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI, a member of the National Research Center "Zhukovsky Institute") took part in the official opening of the architectural complex the “Creators of aviation in Russia.” The event was held in Zhukovsky, Moscow region. A charitable foundation “Legends of aviation,” jointly with LLC “NIK” with the support of the city administration organized the event.
Sergey Chernyshev spoke at the function stating: “The initiation of the architectural complex is essential to TsAGI. The fate of prominent aviation personalities, e.g., Tupolev, Petljakova, Sukhoy, Myasischev, Kamov, Mile and others are infused with the Institute. I am convinced that this project will assume a great social, cultural and patriotic significance. It will contribute to the popularization of aircraft creation among youth.”
The “Creators of aviation in Russia” is a unique architectural complex in the central square of Zhukovsky at Mayakovsky Street. It is Russia’s only historical monument dedicated to domestic aircraft designers. The complex consists of 16 bust monuments of key individuals in memory of the heroic deeds of the great aviation engineers who stood at the very beginnings of Russia’s aircraft industry.
