Gifted graduates of the Educational Center “Sirius” participate in the scientific events of TsAGI

4 August 2017

Graduates of the Educational Center “Sirius” — prize-winners of the Russian Federation Presidential award — participated in the scientific events of the Zhukovsky Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI, a member of the National Research Center" Institute named after N.E.Zhukovsky“) within the framework of the business program of MAKS-2017.

The seminar “New generation. Aeronautics” was the key event for the students. It was organized by TsAGI in conjunction with the IFAR Early Career Network with support from Rossotrudnichestvo. The main topics discussed were global challenges, national priorities and new directions in the development of aeronautics in the world, as well as ideas of possible international projects.

Later, students visited the TsAGI Technopark, where they became acquainted with advanced studies, gained knowledge about the fundamentals of aerodynamics, and the modern research methods of the physics of moving an air current over a body. Also, they observed the aerodynamic experiment of an airflow of a specialized droop nose wing section. At the conclusion of the working day the students received a detailed report about the manufacturing of structures from composite materials by the method of vacuuming and using organic glass.

The next day the students explored the experimental facilities of the Institute and visited MAKS-2017.

One of the important results of the visit was a great interest among the young people for eventual employment at TsAGI.

“People who conducted our tours were real professionals,” said one of the participants. “They had a detailed knowledge in all questions. It was very interesting to communicate with employees of Technopark and TsAGI: aircraft designers, wind-tunnel model makers and others. We really liked the friendliness and the fact that everyone was positive and open.”

The visit came after the speech of TsAGI Director General Sergey Chernyshev at “Sirius” last June in Sochi with a lecture on “The aircraft industry of the future: challenges, problems and solutions.”

The “Sirius” Educational Center in Soch was created by the “Talent and Success” educational foundation on the basis of the Olympic infrastructure and on the initiative of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin. The Center’s aim is early detection, professional development and further support of gifted children with extraordinary abilities in the arts, sports, science, as well as in technical creativity. Students from 10- to 17- years of age who show promise may complete their training at “Sirius” for free.
