Specialists of the the Zhukovsky Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI, a member of the National Research Center “Institute named after N.E.Zhukovsky) took part in the 35th Conference and 29th Symposium of the International Committee on Aeronautical Fatigue (ICAF). The event took place in Nagoya, Japan.
TsAGI scientists reported on the results of their endurance tests of full-scale airframes, the evaluation of scenarios on percussion effects for transport aircraft, as well as experimental and analytical studies of design integrity in case of extensive fatigue damage.
“Actual structural integrity issues of long-term airframes operation were discussed,” said the Deputy Head of the Department of aircraft designs resource of TsAGI Konstantin Shcherban. “It is important to note that TsAGI became a permanent participant of ICAF, and TsAGI credibility in questions of providing flying life helped Russia become an official ICAF member this year.”
The International Committee on Aeronautical Fatigue and Structural Integrity (ICAF) is an informal organization, specializing in structural integrity in of aircraft design. Its activity is to encourage contactsbetween people actively engaged in aircraft structural integrity problems and to exchange information, experience, opinions and ideas concerning aeronautical fatigue and fatigue-related subjects. ICAF now consists of 19 countries from Europe, Asia, North and South America, and Australia. ICAF Conferences have been organized since 1951 and the symposia since 1959.
