TsAGI Director General delivers address at the Educational Center “Sirius”

Sergey Chernyshev, the Director General of the Zhukovsky Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI, a member of the National Research Center “Institute named after N.E.Zhukovsky”) visited the children’s educational center “Sirius” in Sochi, where he delivered a lecture on “The aircraft industry of the future: challenges, problems, solutions” for the students of “Science” approach. He spoke about the promising developments of supersonic and hypersonic aircraft, pilot and research installations and strategic goals of world aviation.

Students took advantage of the opportunity to learn about the present and future of domestic and world aviation and took part in a lively discussion. The audience was especially interested in the details of aircraft testing in wind tunnels, supersonic and hypersonic flights, the development of helicopters, as well as the future objectives of improving the aerodynamic qualities of an aircraft. Dr. Chernyshev involved the students in the fundamentals of aerodynamics, elaborated on TsAGI’s advanced research, and the challenges faced by modern scientists. In his final comments TsAGI’s Director General stressed the importance of the influx of young people into the Russian aviation industry and invited the students to visit the exposition of the Institute at the international aviation and space Salon MAKS-2017.

The “Sirius” Educational Center in Soch was created by the “Talent and Success” educational foundation on the basis of the Olympic infrastructure and on the initiative of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin. The Center’s aim is early detection, professional development and further support of gifted children with extraordinary abilities in the arts, sports, science, as well as in technical creativity. Students from 10- to 17- years old who show promise may complete their training at “Sirius” for free.
