TsAGI takes part in the AIAA AVIATION Forum 2017

21 June 2017

Scientists of the Zhukovsky Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI, a member of the National Research Center “Institute named after N.E.Zhukovsky”) made a report as a part of AIAA AVIATION Forum 2017. The event took place in the beginning of June in Denver (USA) and included 18 conferences by perspective directions of Aeronautics, including applied aerodynamics, aeroacoustics, computational fluid dynamics, plasma dynamics, methods of modeling and flight tests.

TsAGI specialists participated in two sections of the Forum — the 23rd Aeroacoustics AIAA/CEAS Conference and the 23rd AIAA Computational Fluid Dynamics Conference (CFD). Aeroacoustics scientists presented the results of their studies on the operation of instability waves in turbulent jets and discussed the experimental determination of the task (retrieving) the acoustic impedance of sound-absorbing construction used in aircraft engines. They reported about the first experience of application of azimuth diagnostic methods of noise at jet-wing interaction. At the CFD section specialists showed correspondence between experimental results and calculated data done by LES/DES modeling and code based on burst of high order Galerkin method accuracy. The program developed in TsAGI will help to multiply the speed of calculation in modeling turbulent flows in the future.

“Today much more attention in the world is paid to the instability waves control task,” explained doctor of physico-mathematical sciences, Professor, head of Department of Aeroacoustics and ecology aircraft FSUE “TsAGI” Victor Kopyov. “Much is done in TsAGI in this field and it is highly regarded by our colleagues. The acoustic impendence report became the basis of the discussion of our mutual work with NASA, the German Aerospace Center and Aerospace Center in the Netherlands, which took place at the site of the Conference. In general, the number of studies on this topic significantly increases,” he concluded.

The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) is the world’s largest scientific-technical society in the field of aviation. It consists of 30 thousand individual members and 95 organizations from 85 countries. The AIAA brings together industry, administrative departments, scientific and academic circles, in order to achieve progress in the field of aviation and cosmonautics.

The purpose of the annual AIAA AVIATION Forum 2017 is to create a massive platform for showcasing the latest advances in aircraft design, air traffic control and space technologies, as well as policy, planning, and economic issues affecting the future development of the world aviation industry.
