Cooperation with European organizations in the field of civil aviation discussed at TsAGI

19 June 2017

A seminar on cooperation with European organizations on civil aeronautical research was arranged at Zhukovsky Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI, a member of National research center “Institute named after N.E. Zhukovsky”) in the beginning of June.

The event sought to review the framework of cooperative research projects, together with European partners — leaders of the aviation industry in Europe, the analysis of the results obtained and the possibilities for further use when creating promising aircraft. Representatives of the National Contact Point “Aeronautics” (NCP operates through TsAGI since 2004), National research center “Institute named after N.E. Zhukovsky”, research institutes in its structure, ministries and enterprises of aviation industry of the Russian Federation.

A key topic of the discussion was the participation of Russian organizations in joint projects in the field of Aeronautics operating within European research programs. In his speech, the head of the NCP — General Director of FSUE “TsAGI”, academician Sergey Chernyshev focused on the programs “Horizon 2020” Future Safety, Clean Sky 2, SESAR. He spoke about the work of the National Contact Point for the integration of domestic organizations in the European research space and the ongoing activities in this direction.

Sergey Chernyshev also gave examples of Russian-European cooperation, implemented with the participation of TsAGI and several other Russian research organizations. Among them were HEXAFLY-INT (high-speed experimental drone), SARISTU (Smart Intelligent Aircraft Structures), DREAM (verification of new systems in engine design), RESEARCH (study of electrical control system architectures), BUTERFLI (research of buffeting and boundary layer laminar- turbulent transition control to improve aerodynamic characteristics of the aircraft), and AFLoNext (wrapping aircraft management technologies).

“The active work of the National Contact Point for information and consulting support of the Russian organization’s participation in the European framework programs is the possibility of technological growth and scientific breakthrough for the Russian aviation industry,” Sergey Chernyshev explained. “The knowledge and experience that we acquire in the course of international cooperation, accumulates and multiplies technology advances for the Russian aircraft industry.”
