TsAGI specialists awarded with the young scientists’ grant of the Moscow Government
3 March 2017
The employees of the Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute named after professor N.E. Zhukovsky (TsAGI, part of the National Research Center “Institute named after N.E. Zhukovsky”) were awarded the annual young scientists’ grant of the Moscow Government. The award ceremony was held on March 1.
Research work on methods of noise reduction for modern Russian civil aircraft won first prize in the nomination “Mathematics, mechanics and computer science.” Its authors are scientists of the Institute; Georgy Faranosov, Ivan Belyaev and Oleg Bychkov. In their work they studied the noise source connected with the interaction of the jet engine and the aircraft wing. This phenomenon has a significant impact on the environmental noise level of modern aircraft.
The result of the fundamental research was the creation of a physical model based on the first obtained solution of the two-dimensional diffraction problem (scattering), designed to simulate the interaction effect of the jet and the wing in a qualitative manner. Moreover, the specialists of TsAGI proposed a new near-field jet model, which makes it possible to assess the value of the interaction noise for various arrangements.
The Institute’s scientists proposed recommendations on optimizing the flap deflection parameters in terms of environmental noise reduction. Their development in combination with an effective numerical method contributes to the creation of competitive civil aircraft. These aircraft will comply with current and future ICAO environmental noise standards.
The contest for the Moscow Government prizes to young scientists has been held annually since 2013. Young scientists under age of 35 can apply for this award. Each award winner is paid a prize and awarded a diploma.
