TsAGI Takes Part in EASN Conference in Portugal

7 November 2016

In late October a delegation of the Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute named after professor N.E. Zhukovsky (part of the National Research Center ‘Institute named after N.E.Zhukovsky) took part in the 6th International Conference of EASN (European Aeronautics Science Network). The event was held in Porto (Portugal).

EASN was founded as an open platform for support and development of studies in the field of aeronautics. TsAGI has been a part of this network since 2015, and is the EASN strategic partner in Russia.

TsAGI representatives studied the cutting-edge trends of foreign aerospace research, and discussed with their colleagues global trends and forecasts in further development of aeronautics. At the panel discussion on aviation design TsAGI scholars talked about their achievements in research on the new generation of composite metal structures for advanced aircraft.

The conference became a venue for perspective new studies during the cross-cultural year between Greece and Russia. The TsAGI delegation and the delegation of MIPT met with the representatives of the University of Patras. In the spring of this year the Russian center of aviations science signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Greek university on enhancing strategic cooperation. The parties discussed the process of preparing a joint project on the topic of innovative composite metal structures for advanced civil aircraft with participation of Hellenic Aerospace Industry, a Greek aerospace company.

During the visit to Portugal the TsAGI delegation also discussed with their partners the future joint initiatives for students and young professionals, and their involvement in research on the concept and development of supersonic passenger aircraft. The project is coordinated, in addition to EASN, by the ESA (European Space Agency) and CERN (the European Organization for Nuclear Research). The Russian side is represented by TsAGI and MIPT.
