Sochi hosts the 15th anniversary seminar of TsAGI–ONERA
14 October 2016
In early October, the Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute named after professor N.E. Zhukovsky (TsAGI, part of the National Research Center “Institute named after N.E. Zhukovsky”) and French National Center for Aerospace Research (ONERA) held their annual scientific seminar — the 15th TsAGI-ONERA Seminar. The meeting point was Sochi.
Non-traditional aircraft layouts, aeroacoustics and noise reduction, advanced aircraft designs are examples of the most pressing contemporary issues in aeronautics, which were discussed by participants at the seminar. The results of research work on the development of methods of optimization of framed metal-composite structures, obtained by young scientists of TSAGI and ONERA within the framework of their joint project were presented at one of the sessions. Last year the authors of that work became the first laureates of the prize named after Denis Maugars, former President of ONERA and one of the ideologists of the seminar. The award was established by the Russian and French centers and aims to encourage joint research projects of young specialists of TSAGI and ONERA. The prize is awarded every two years, so details of the competition to be held in 2017 were discussed at the seminar.
Special attention was paid to the issues of research cooperation. Agreements to launch new bilateral projects in the next year were signed in the course of a special session.
This seminar is included in the list of events celebrating 50 years of cooperation between Russia and France in the field of science and technology. A vivid example of successful cooperation is the partnership between TSAGI and ONERA, which began in the 1960s. “Thanks to the continuous dialogue between scientists, scientific seminars, participation in framework programme projects of the European Union, we have great opportunities for joint research works in the field of aeronautics,” pointed out Sergey Chernyshev, Director General of TSAGI. “It is important to mention that this year ONERA celebrates its 70th anniversary, and our long-term cooperation between TSAGI and the French centre is a model of mutually beneficial exchanges of innovative ideas and results, which focused on key trends in the industry.”
