TsAGI Holds Meeting with Partners from China

In June, Shenyang (The People’s Republic of China) hosted the team of the experts from the Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute named after professor N.E. Zhukovsky (part of the National Research Center ‘Institute named after N.E.Zhukovsky‘) as part of their visit for negotiations with the Chinese partners from AVIC ARI.
The colleagues discussed the contract ‘Design of Variable Panel Testing Section for Transonic Wind Tunnel’ under which the design documentation for the FL-3 AVIC ARI unit testing section with variable wall perforation degree was prepared. The suggested solution allows reducing boundary effect on model flow during the test, i. e. it prevents aerodynamic performance distortion.
During the meeting in Shenyang, the partners attested successful performance of the contract and shaped a plan to promote further cooperation. Specifically, TsAGI is considered as a potential contractor to perform the design of a strip suspension for the AVIC ARI wind tunnel test section and a test stand to study aeroelastic problems.
As part of design drafting for the FL-3 test section, the institute experts applied the experience gained during the creation of TsAGI’s transonic tunnel which is the Institute’s most popular industrial unit. It has four quick-change test sections, three of them with multisection variable wall perforation and one with variable slotted perforation. The unit has been in successful operation for more than 30 years and is widely used in research focused on civil aerospace engineering.
