TsAGI and MIPT Discuss Cooperation in the Field of Innovations Development

In the early April, the Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute named after N.E. Zhukovsky (TsAGI) was host to a delegation from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. The parties discussed cooperation in the field of scientific research and promotion of innovations, and outlined the prospects of cooperation in the near future.
In the course of visit, the Pro-rector for Research and Strategic Development of MIPT, Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, Professor Tagir Aushev visited the largest facilities of TsAGI’s experimental base and talked with the scientists performing teaching practice in MIPT. Attending the meeting was the Dean of the Aeromechanics & Aircraft Faculty (FALT of MIPT), Candidate of Engineering Maksim Kudrov. The basic departments of TsAGI headed by the scientists of the Russian center of aviation science are involved with FALT.
The General Director of TsaAGI, Associate Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, heading the Flight Physics Department of FALT MIPT, Sergey Chernyshev discussed with the colleagues from MIPT the issues related to innovation and commercialization of technologies. The concept of the formation of the scientific-innovation and educational center in the field of aeronautics based on MIPT and TsAGI was discussed at the meeting. It would be focused on training researchers and the creation of an industry environment for performance of actual research and development in the field of civil aeronautics oriented to commercial applications and their active promotion in the market. The MIPT Pro-rector Tagir Aushevm, in turn, told about plans for the creation of a university seed fund in MIPT. Its activity would be aimed at funding technology projects of the students and graduates of MIPT.
General Director of TsAGI Sergey Chernishev noted: “MIPT is a ‘supplier’ of the highest qualification personnel for TsAGI and our scientists appreciate every MIPT graduate for being an example of young researchers equipped to solve problems rather than solely theoretical ‘book learning.’ We closely cooperate in scientific and educational fields, and can use that experience to advance scientific and innovation development. I suppose, such a concept will bring a powerful synergistic effect.”
The Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute named after N.E. Zhukovsky and the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology are tied by many-years of productive partnership. TsAGI and MIPT possess years of experience of joint research, including in the international area. Examples are the projects of the Seventh Framework Program of the European Union — PoLaRBEAR (new technologies of production of gauze elements of the composite compartment of fuselage of increased reliability), BUTERFLI (research of control of buffeting and laminar-turbulent transition of boundary layer for improvement of aircraft aerodynamic characteristics), HEXAFLY-INT (development of the high-speed passenger plane concept). The results of the latter were discussed in particular at the negotiations which continued at the site of FALT of MIPT.
