TsAGI tests the MS-21-300 fin torsion box for impact damages

The certification static tests of the composite МS-21-300 fin torsion box were completed in February. The fin box is manufactured according to the design of PJSC Irkut Corporation at Russian enterprises, including JSC Aviastar-SP (Ulyanovsk) and JSC ORPE Technologiya named after A.G. Romashin (Obninsk).
The final stage of the tests was to determine the load-carrying capability of the subject construction under impact damages.
In general, for all cases of the fin box, loading the calculated and experimental structural deformation results were compared. This allowed confirmation of the correctness of the fin box strength criteria and the selected methods of calculation.
Aleksandr Dzyuba, the Head of Static and Thermal Strength Division of TsAGI said: „The test results of our work are positive. Compliance of our calculations with the experimental data are fully confirmed. The results obtained will also allow us to provide preparation of materials for the trial flight, flight tests and subsequent certification of the aircraft for its static strength parameters.”
