TsAGI scientists discuss aeroacoustics pressing matters with their colleagues

16 October 2015

In late September — early October, a regular Open Russian Conference on Aeroacoustics was held in Zvenigorod. The conference has been regularly conducted since 1962, traditionally held by TsAGI’s Aeroacoustics and Ecology Division. The conference was organized under financial support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, Russian Foundation for Basic Research and the X-Noise EV project under the European Union 7th Framework Programme. The Conference’s technical partner was the Scientific Communications Agency.

The scientific event gathered about 160 professionals from leading scientific and production enterprises, students, postgraduates, and university professors. Foreign scientists from Italy, Denmark, and Germany also took part in the Conference.

The event program highlighted pressing issues of aeroacoustics, which were covered in 130 presentations. Scientists discussed matters concerning aircraft noise in the field and cabin, diagnostics of noise sources and innovative methods of noise proactive control, acoustics of aviation engines, methods of acoustic measurement, computer aeroacoustics, and aeroecology.

Viktor Kopjev, Dr. Sci. in Physics and Mathematics, Head of Aeroacoustics and Ecology Division of TsAGI, presented his plenary paper entitled “Contemporary Problems of Aeroacoustics.” In his speech, the scientist highlighted current problems of the Russian scientific community present in this area. “It is important to note that leading science and research organizations and design centers, as well as experts in aircraft and engine construction took part in the event,” said Viktor Kopjev. “This has allowed us to discuss new recommendations of the ICAO Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection regarding strengthening of noise regulations and subsequent challenges for the Russian aviation industry, as well as problems of development and creation of state-of-the-art technology for achieving unparalleled cabin noise characteristics.”
