IFASD 2015: Results of the second day
30 June 2015
The first day of IFASD-2015, the 16th International Forum on Aeroelasticity and Structural Dynamics, has finished. The TsAGI press office has provided some highlights of key events at the forum.
The day began with a plenary report from Embraer Product Development Engineer Olympio Achilles Mello (Brazil). He spoke about the role of aeroelasticity research in extension of technological capabilities. The speaker from Brazil noted high quality of event management at IFASD 2015 and stressed the importance of such meetings.
During the session part, TsAGI scientists presented a wide range of papers. The topics included ground frequency and flight testing, aeroelasticity in aircraft design, dynamic loads and aeroelastic stability, rotating systems aeroelasticity, as well as experimental methods and bridge structures analysis. TsAGI experts presented the results of studies aimed at improving aircraft structures resonance testing methods, carried out jointly with Prodera (France). In addition, TsAGI experts highlighted the results of structural dynamics research of adaptive wing demonstrator carried out within the framework of SADE Project of the 7th European Framework Programme.
“Such events as IFASD-2015 are of great importance. International meetings are like a breath of fresh air, a real holiday for all participants. Experts can meet with each other, and ideas are born through their discussions, to be implemented later. Everyone can learn something new at such events. For example, our foreign colleagues were surprised to find out about a whole layer of TsAGI’s works in electro-mechanical modeling, the field which is poorly developed abroad. Thus, our scientists become known throughout the world and receive the status of recognized experts outside the country” — the moderator of Experimental Methods in Aeroelasticity and Bridge Structures Analysis, TsAGI Head of the Aircraft Strength Complex Peter Karkle said.
On June 30, a meeting was held between representatives of the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute and Polytec (Germany), the forum sponsor. The partners discussed implementation of the bilateral framework agreement. This document regulates cooperation in applied aircraft research and co-operation.
Another notable event of the day was the negotiations between scientists of TsAGI and Prodera (France). “Over the past 50 years our French colleagues has been providing us with high quality systems for frequency testing. And since the 1990s, TSAGI has been modernizing the software for this equipment, thus improving its technology. During the meeting we told Prodera President Klaas Dijkstra about the experience of implementation of the company’s products. Our partner, in turn, presented new design solutions. The result was an agreement to coordinate efforts in implementation of joint projects”, — TsAGI Deputy General Director and Head of the Aircraft Strength Complex Mikhail Zichenkov summed up.
President of Prodera Klaas Dijkstra said: “TsAGI, being our priority Russian partner, has an excellent team and a serious approach, not only in terms of research and development but also in terms of presentation of the results, which can be seen from the reports delivered by TsAGI” .
IFASD provides a comprehensive survey of the current status of research and development in the fields of Aerospace Vehicle Aeroelasticity and Structural Dynamics, Multidisciplinary Analysis and Optimization, and Active and Adaptive Structures. During the forum, representatives of scientific organizations, aviation industry enterprises, and universities have the opportunity to share knowledge, experience and discuss promising areas of research. This year IFASD is organized by FSUE TSAGI.
