On January 7 — 10, 2013, TsAGI participated in the 51st Aerospace Sciences Meeting, organized by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). The event was held in Grapevine (Texas, USA).

The AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting is held annually in early January and is one of the key events of the year for aerospace industry scientists and engineers from around the world. Meeting participants have the opportunity to learn about the latest developments in the field of aeronautics and share the results of their own research.

At the section devoted to plasma actuators in supersonic and hypersonic flight, a report entitled “Reducing transverse instability in the compressible boundary layer using plasma actuators” was presented by the Executive Director of TsAGI, Member of the Standing Committee for the International Operations of the AIAA, Sergei Leonidovich Chernyshev.

“The AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting is one of the major annual events in the global aviation research community. Participation in such events enables professionals to stay on top of their game and not lose sight of important scientific advancements,” said Chernyshev.

In addition, a meeting between the managers of TsAGI and NASA, and a meeting of the editorial board of Progress in Aerospace Sciences magazine, in whose work TsAGI participates, were held as a part of the forum.

This year’s conference attracted about 2,000 people, including scientists, engineers, teachers, students, business leaders and public officials. Over 1,300 reports were presented at more than 30 technical workshops.

The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) is the world’s largest technology community, bringing together people associated with the aerospace industry. The Institute has more than 35,000 individual and 100 corporate members.
